Dublin, 29th January 2010. Virtual Access has successfully completed a legacy migration project in conjunction with BT for a UK transport authority.Dublin, 29th January 2010. Virtual Access has successfully completed a legacy migration project in conjunction with BT for a UK transport authority. The project moved several thousand Variable Message Signs used by the public for traffic information to DSL using the Virtual Access Service Managed Gateway (SMG).
The network used to control the signs was made obsolete as part of BT’s 21CN activities, resulting in a potentially costly and time-consuming project to upgrade the displays. Virtual Access solved this problem by converting the legacy network interface to DSL meaning that the displays did not need to be upgraded.
The solution had to meet the technically complex tasks of moving the existing interface to broadband and operating in the tough roadside environment with the ability to deal with extremes of heat, cold, humidity and electrical noise as a basic requirement.
A Virtual Access SMG was installed in over 2000 locations over a five month period. The displays have been successfully operating since then.
UK Transport Authority Technical Manager: “Continued operation and any future expansion depended on migration of the network technology to a current and future-proof IP-based broadband platform, which the Virtual Access solution has helped us to achieve cost-effectively, seamlessly and with minimum disruption to service.”
BT Manager: “The Virtual Access solution allowed our customer to continue service on a fully supported platform over a DSL infrastructure without the cost and disruption of an equipment upgrade.”
Patrick Conway, Director of Business Development for Virtual Access, says: ‘The Virtual Access solution has resolved an otherwise costly and disruptive problem and in addition, provided a path for the future on a fully supported broadband network. The solution provides a Zero Touch approach to migration aiming to minimise any disruption to the end customer. In this case the SMG provides a complex service while operating in extreme conditions in a limited space. Successful completion of the project showcases our products in a high profile organisation used by hundreds of thousands of people in one of the world’s best known cities; it’s a clear example of where our products provide a strong benefit in a challenging environment.
Virtual Access are specialists in NGN migration solutions and have provided equipment and services to BT, Deutsche Telekom, NTT Communications, Telstra, TeliaSonera and many other major telecommunications operators worldwide.

Rocom Launches Panasonic Workshop

Telecoms distributor Rocom has launched a Panasonic workshop sweetener for its reseller partners, to build upon its role as a Panasonic distributor. Based in Wetherby, West Yorkshire, the managed service offering for Panasonic at Dealer Workshop focuses on the support and service packages available through the distributor.
Kelly Maynard, Panasonic brand manager at Rocom, said: “We are delighted with the high attendance at the workshop and really encouraged by the positive feedback and enthusiasm we have seen from our dealers.
“The services that Rocom offers to Panasonic resellers provide a fantastic supporting infrastructure to help IP technology become more ‘understandable’ and the benefits easier for dealers to sell. We very much look forward to holding similar events in the future.”
The workshop enabled Rocom to demonstrate what it can offer resellers in terms of bundled solutions of remotely programmed routers, broadband links, voice quality and a support desk.
A key point of interest was the distributor’s Virtual Access router combined with options from Rocom’s Network Services division. The Virtual Access router was recently certified by Panasonic as fully compatible with its voice over IP (VoIP) systems.
Stephen Gerrard, marketing manager at Panasonic UK, said: “It is great to see Rocom supporting dealers who are trying to move into new technology with their managed VoIP service offering.
“We have tested the Virtual Access router with our telephone systems and are confident that resellers can use it to ease their path into IP telephony. The managed service provided by Rocom is a great way of building confidence.”
Rocom previously announced a series of free workshops for resellers focused on vertical markets.
Announced in October, the distributor teamed with vendor partners Avaya and New Media Software to provide seminars on end-user needs in different verticals – the first two workshops covered education and the legal sector.

Tiscali Certifies Virtual Access Appliances

Tiscali UK has certified the Virtual Access Service Managed Gateway family of managed customer premises equipment (CPE) appliances for use on the Tiscali QoDSL IPVPN networks. Virtual Access is now one of only two CPE providers approved by Tiscali for use by reseller channels on the Tiscali QoDSL IPVPN networks.
Virtual Access CPE appliances are a cost-effective alternative to other CPE products and offer Tiscali channel partners a substantial range of business benefits, including:

A family of CPE appliances for corporate teleworker, small SME, retail, and medium-sized SME projects
IP-Touch, a fully outsourced managed service model that offers the Tiscali business broadband reseller a hands-off approach to deploying and managing CPE.; and
IP-Select, a self delivery service model that minimises the costs associated with deploying, managing, and monitoring CPE-based services for those Tiscali channels that need to be directly involved in the service delivery process.

Nigel Ifill, Director of Sales for Virtual Access, says: 'This certification opens up the availability of a substantial range of new Managed CPE product and services to Tiscali UK's large community of business broadband resellers.'Many of these companies are major entities in the markets of corporate network management, consultancy and integration services offering IPVPN (MPLS) based broadband services to their corporate and enterprise customers. With Virtual Access' central management servers installed within the core of Tiscali's IPVPN networks, the major business benefits Virtual Access can now provide to these companies are: speed of service deployment and the reduction of costs involved with installation, provisioning and management of large CPE based private networks.'
Henry Brankin, CEO of Virtual Access, sees good growth in Virtual Access business-class services as a result of the Tiscali certification. 'Tiscali's certification of our CPE and related services endorses the value of the Virtual Access offerings to the business community. We are delighted to be partnering with Tiscali in the delivery of their QoDSL and MPLS services and we are confident that we will see a tremendous growth of these business-class services in the near future,' says Mr. Brankin.
Lance Spencer, Product Development Director, Tiscali Business Services says: 'Tiscali has unparalleled experience in delivering QoDSL MPLS IPVPNs and we are delighted to be able to add Virtual Access CPE to the approved portfolio not only from a technical perspective, but also from the additional business benefits they offer to the overall solution'.

Virtual Access Approved For Use With TeleWare

Virtual Access today announced that TeleWare, the leading provider of intelligent hosted and customer premises communication solutions, has approved the Virtual Access Managed CPE solutions for use with its SIP Telephony Services.
The Virtual Access patented 'Zero-Touch technology' which is at the core of its range of offerings enables a service provider to ship a CPE appliance to the end customer for self-installation whilst centrally provisioning the services to that appliance. In addition, by means of a centralised service management and monitoring capability, the system enables centralised configuration change management, diagnostics and reporting over an entire network thus minimising the costs of support in converged voice and data environments.
Nigel Ifill, Director at Virtual Access says, "A VoIP provider's implementation and ongoing support costs can represent a significant proportion of their overheads in providing a service to an end customer. Our solution helps to minimise costs by automating the deployment process of the router and IP phones and by simplifying first line support and diagnostics by means of powerful centralised support functions."
Peter Orr, Sales Director for TeleWare Plc commented, "Technology partners such as Virtual Access enable our channel and system integrators to pull the solution together using components that have approved SIP operability with the TeleWare Platform. TeleWare pursue a policy of testing with and supporting a range of third-party hardware including access routers, SIP handsets and servers to ensure customers and channel partners have choice regarding the hardware configuration used to support the TeleWare software applications and hosted services."
TeleWare are endorsing the use of the products for deployment of SIP services over partner's access networks. The Virtual Access products and services are of value to TeleWare principal resellers deploying ADSL networks for corporate teleworker and small SME applications, and SDSL or leased line networks for remote offices of up to 100 personnel. The solutions are applicable for hosted services as well as on-premise installations.
About TeleWareTeleWare is the leading supplier of intelligent communications solutions provided as packaged and tailored Application Software. TeleWare’s applications provide local and wide area Unified Communications capabilities to businesses, improving communications contact with individuals and teams and providing full multimedia messaging services. TeleWare’s applications enhance communications and enable the support of today’s working practices such as teleworking.

Virtual Access and Tiscali Deliver Teleworking Solutions

Virtual Access and Tiscali, the pan-European Internet Service Provider, today announced their partnership to deliver cost-effective, managed Quality of Service over DSL (QoDSL), a key component of the Tiscali ‘Home&Away’ Teleworking Solutions portfolio.
The TW4000 DSL router, in conjunction with Virtual Access managed services, permits businesses to offer employees the opportunity to work from home while maintaining strict corporate network security access policies over a Virtual Private Network. When used in conjunction with Tiscali QoDSL and IP Telephony, enterprises can capitalise on the investment in teleworking by significantly reducing their Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).
Tiscali’s ‘Home & Away’ utilises the Virtual Access TW4000 with VA's Managed Services to provide:

Zero touch activation and automated service provisioning, which enables Tiscali to rapidly deploy new services minimising logistics handling, service provisioning and support tasks.
Centralised service management and support.
Optional concurrent family access to the Internet and business access to the Virtual Private Network over a single ADSL connection.
Optional secure wireless access within the home environment.

Nigel Ifill, Director of Sales at Virtual Access commented: ‘This solution demonstrates how the integration of converged VoIP and data services over ADSL can be used to achieve significant business benefits in today’s rapidly developing world of corporate teleworking. The Tiscali solution can remove the hidden costs of voice services for teleworkers while providing the authenticated data that security companies require when providing access to their networks from an employee’s home.’
Antongiulio La Corte, Head of Teleworker Services at Tiscali added: ‘The Home&Away proposition enables flexible working from home and from satellite offices securely and cost-effectively. No off-the-shelf solution was available in the market from any other manufacturer of DSL equipment, because of compatibility issues with QoDSL and IP Telephony. The Virtual Access technology has enabled us to deploy a new portfolio of services to our business customers rapidly, and fits perfectly into our operational model.’

Virtual Access Launches Business VoIP Management

Virtual Access, the wholesale managed services provider, has today launched a Business VoIP Management system at the Convergence Summit 2005. This system, incorporating the Virtual Access Clearway™ technology, enables resellers to exploit broadband to deliver voice services and offer Quality of Service (QoS) where there is no QoS at the core.
Henry Brankin, CEO of Virtual Access, commented, ‘Poor QoS has long been a contributing factor to the poor take-up of VoIP by businesses and we have invested significant R&D resources to address this problem. Our Clearway™ technology controls converged voice and data jitter and latency both upstream and downstream, even for service providers who rely on the BT IP stream and have no QoS at the core.’
The Virtual Access Business VoIP Management system is centrally configured and managed. No support staff are involved in commissioning the technology, which allows the service provider’s staff to work directly on real customer issues.
The centralised reporting system removes the need for site visits to analyse customer problems and reduces downtime and management costs. The system provides a web portal to provide customised SLA and reporting information for each type of user, making it simpler for everyone to see how the service is working.
Brankin continued: ‘We want to provide a secure, high-margin offering for service providers to differentiate themselves within the market place. We believe that the QoS offered by the Business VoIP Management system will allow service providers to offer a value-added business broadband service and boost revenue streams.’
Virtual Access is a wholesale managed services provider. It provides solutions that enable service providers to deploy value-added security and IP telephony services with lowest operations cost, lowest start-up costs, maximum network visibility and unlimited network scalability. Virtual Access products are used by over twenty leading service providers, delivering regional and nationwide services such as teleworking, virtual private networking, security and financial transaction services.
