The Challenge
Utilities companies such as water monitoring and management, gas, oil and electricity use Remote Telemetry Units for monitoring equipment, power, water levels, temperature and various parameters of systems used for supervisory, control and data acquisition purposes. These devices have sensors and control equipment connecting back to a management control centre via serial, low-speed telephony. Networks used to carry this information are being discontinued and need to be replaced without disruption to service. The customer needs to retain an audit trail in case an incident needs to be reviewed.
