BT Cardway IP-Touch

The Challenge

BT Cardway wanted to offer customers a seamless migration path from legacy leased lines to IP over ADSL or 3G. The solution needs to address the following key requirements:

  • A hands-off approach to router service provisioning and configuration management.
  • Ease of installation and in-service maintenance.
  • No change to the customer’s existing equipment, process or configuration, thereby eliminating the cost to the customer of equipment, process and configuration upgrades.
  • Meet the technically complex tasks of moving the existing interface to broadband and operating in a demanding environment where connection downtime results in lost revenues.
The Solution

BT chose to use the Virtual Access IP-Touch service delivery model to migrate leased line customers to IP. The service provides full outsource of the configuration management and second- and third-line support of the Customer Premises Equipment (CPE).

BT’s operations have access to a management portal, which enables them to place service requests, perform first-line support tasks, and to monitor the status of installed appliances 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.

The Benefits

From BT’s point of view, the cost of service implementation is reduced and the time to market is shortened. The use of the Virtual Access Zero-Touch managed installation process means that no specialist installer is required on site to install the CPE appliance. This in turn simplifies the logistics operation and reduces the costs ofservice implementation.

Carl Dickinson, BT Commercial Director commented, “In deploying the Virtual Access solution it was vitally important that we had a partner which we could rely upon to deliver a first class service.

In addition, we wanted our customers’ experience of migration to IP to be unblemished and therefore required a device that could address the quality of service requirements. Further, Virtual Access has delivered on all fronts and has contributed to the success of the BT Cardway product suite.”
