Many large organisations have countrywide networks of monitoring and control sites often in very remote or high security locations without on-site technicians. The equipment typically uses a mixture of Serial, I/O and Ethernet connectivity using DC or AC power. The ability for the equipment to operate in low or high temperature uncontolled environments with very high communications reliability, rapid diagnostics, reporting and resolution of faults is a basic requirement.
