To download new firmware to the SMG, the SMG must have a valid license key with a support agreement. If the SMG does not have a valid license key, contact your reseller or support team. The LinXpeed Pro and GW3000 do not require license keys.
A license key is a digital permit containing support agreement information. You must install the license key to download new firmware to the Service Managed Gateway. The license key also contains information about some advanced features that may not be available as standard, such as Clearway and firewall logging.
For more detailed information read the ‘Installing and Troubleshooting License Keys’ application guide.
To find the trace analyzer:
To qualify events with a text string, type the text string in the event filter edit field. Use the comparators ! (NOT), & (AND), | (OR) to filter by multiple strings. For example, to show IP events with ICMP|TCP in the event text, select IP events and type ICMP or TCP in the event field. You must select Start Trace to start the applet.
The content filter is a URL-based web filter that validates a requested URL against a database of categorised sites. Use predefined filtering rules to allow or block categiories of web content.
To configure the content filter:
You need a valid feature key before you can use this feature.
You use the Service Managed Gateway scripting language to create custom scripts to run repetitive test and operations. Several default scripts are built into the firmware as standard. The backup script enables the SMG to switch to a backup interface when the primary connection is down. For more information read the ‘How to use the Backup Script’ guide.

In addition to the standard firewall, the GW4000 and GW5000 devices come with an enhanced firewall logging feature that will log attempted traffic flows and actual traffic flows through the Service Managed Gateway.
It can be configured on either a system-wide and per interface basis.

The firewall log feature also allows for manual or automatic upload of the log, depending on the configuration. For more information on firewall logging, read the ‘How to Configure a Firewall’ guide.
Quality of Service capabilities allow you to prioritise, police and shape traffic as required. Virtual Routes qualify the traffic and send to Diffserv Queues, which provide the prioritisation and shaping rules.

The CONFIG LED will be flashing quickly when running in its factory configuration. To reset the SMG to factory config, after checking that all of the cables are properly connected and the LED lights are working correctly, using a pen tip, press the RESET button and hold it in for two to fifteen seconds, then release. The SMG will reboot. The LEDs will go out then the boot LED sequence will restart. When the LEDs have settled down again after boot sequence the CONFIG LED will be flashing quickly to indicate it is running in factory configuration.
Note: For SMG running firmware prior to 8.10.05 the reset button should be held for between two and five seconds to reset for factory configuration.
If you press the reset button for more than 15 seconds the SMG will continue to operate as normal.
If you press the reset button for less than 2 seconds the SMG will simply reboot into the same configuration file that it was already running.
