MPLS

Our managed services solutions bring valuable additional services to suppliers that provide MPLS (Multiprotocol Label Switching) networks.

Our network equipment, the Service Managed Gateway (SMG), uses Clearway™ traffic management to create quality of service and data marking that prioritises traffic before it enters the MPLS network and then easily routes the traffic through the MPLS core.

For suppliers of SIP or MGCP VoIP services over a core MPLS network, the SMG also provides call volume control to stop over-utilisation of available bandwidth.

Converged Voice and Data

The Service Managed Gateway family of appliances incorporate the technology required to implement cost- effective convergence of IP telephony and data traffic over a single broadband connection.

Internet Service Providers who want to incorporate VoIP services face a dilemma: how to provide high quality voice and data converged services without the implementation of costly QoS within the core of their networks.

Virtual Access Clearway QoS management for VoIP is an effective means for controlling the parameters which affect voice quality when used in converged networks from the edge of the network.

Key features are:

• Upstream and downstream jitter management

• SIP and MGCP proxy services

• Dynamic allocation of bandwidth for Voice and Data packets

• Support for Cisco SAA Service Assurance Agent performance monitoring protocol

The Virtual AccessService Managed Gateway (SMG) CPE appliances are now tailored to incorporate optional VoIP call quality measurement facilities.

The Service Managed Gateway CPE family incorporates numerous on-board diagnostic facilities which are centrally accessible via the appliance Monitor portal such as:

• Connection Monitor
• Line History
• Event Log
• ARP Table
• Trace Analyser

When used in conjunction with Mean Opinion Score facilities they enable any support operation to efficiently localise the nature of a reported voice call quality problem.

Through Monitor, a historical reporting facility incorporates a range of appliance statistics which are automatically uploaded to a central archive. Using Monitor, historical reports on network-wide Mean Opinion Scores (MOS); ADSL line history; bandwidth utilisation and performance; all based on variable criteria are available for a central data warehouse.

Broadband Internet access provides the opportunity to deliver all data and voice services over a common telecommunications infrastructure. The bandwidths available on ADSL are more than enough to deliver several concurrent telephone calls together with a data service, all over a single access line. This converged method of telecommunications services delivery can provide significant cost savings for businesses and an opportunity for service providers to increase their revenues and profits through additional value added services.

Virtual Access has addressed the demand for low jitter networking with the Clearway VoIP traffic management system. In a typical small office LAN that supports voice and data services, the requirements of this network can be summarised as follows:

  • PCs and phones must share the ADSL bandwidth
  • Phone traffic must be delivered with minimum delay
  • When no voice calls are in progress, all bandwidth should be made available to the PCs

VPN

Traditional private networks require expensive, leased telecommunications lines between offices. Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) are private data networks that use public communications resources, such as the Internet.

Our VPN technology delivers a unique solution for VPN networking through Zero Touch automation, provisioning, and management of Virtual Private Services. The solution delivers everything you need to manage very large numbers of VPNs over an IP platform, and the VPN can easily be scaled to accommodate increasing connection requirements.

Firewall

A stateful firewall is key to the high level of security offered by the Service Managed Gateway.

  • The stateful firewall allows the configuration of standard intrusion filters through a firewall wizard. An additional 196 optional filters provide extra firewall strength.
  • Stateful inspection tracks each connection through the firewall. A stateful firewall allows traffic to pass based on whether it is associated with an existing authorised connection. It does not examine each packet in isolation. This results in accurate threat detection and protection.
  • Connections are tracked using a flow table that records detailed information about each session.
  • Inbound packets are compared to the flow table and then permitted through the firewall.
